Speaking of wanderlust, photography and the need to flee this city every now and then...I'll be out of town without a computer for the next 8 days.. trying with all my might to remember how life was before the internet and to prove to myself that I can live without it. At least temporarily. Ha.
Have a wonderful week. Happy 4th..
Check back in around the week of the 9th.

The relationships between those who dwell within a landscape and the landscape itself intrigues me. Man becomes isolated from what once was a pure and natural environment, simultaneously while isolating ones self from and within the suburban, urban and industrial environments we've constructed. The ironic part is we've constructed something that we continuously neglect.. and structures start to resemble somewhat of a discarded half eaten sandwich. These three images, through humor or irony or a stage, share a glimpse of what I'm speaking of.

Not to mention... School of Visual Arts is having their MFA Photo Thesis exhibition, Newly Released at the Visual Arts Gallery in Chelsea and it looks really really wonderful. I am quite envious of the space each artist is getting (as the Mentor show was insanely crowded). Congrats to the newly released!
What do these photographers have in common? They were all at the Blind Spot party last night and consequently were all at a dinner table with me afterwards. Quite a crew. Shane Lavalette and his fellow co-worker Mike met up after helping hang "A New American Portrait" over at the Jen Bekman Gallery. Richard Renaldi was there with Seth Boyd and Marc Yankus and I was there with my two lovely friends Summer Kemick and Nicola Kast. Paul Moakley (a great photo editor over at Newsweek) showed up as things were wrapping up but it was fun to see him out. The event was sponsored by Dewars.. so we were all having fun to say the least.

There are quite a few photographers fascinated with the enigmatic terrain that surrounds us... fascinated by how man has touched nature and how nature in turn holds or touches man. It is in this sculpted environment that one may find solace, wonderment, humor, irony, confinement, loss of identity...

To see more on this subject one can see the group show that Humble Arts Foundation has put together at Gitana Rosa in Brooklyn called 'In the Dirt: Young Photographers Rethinking the Human Relationship to the Contemporary Landscape" that will remain up through July 6.

I'm noticing that though folks are eager to see their own work and the work of their friends here... nobody is that eager to post any feedback or comments for participating wanderlustagraphers. It leaves me not knowing if this site is stimulating, boring, interesting, effective, intriguing.. or... etc. So if you visit and or contribute please feel free to leave comments about the work or about the site.

Thanks for your time,
Amy
